EGD 2023 Shepherds Hut Build Showcase
At EGD, we are absolutely thrilled to showcase our remarkable 2023 shepherds hut build nestled in the serene and picturesque lakeside setting of Fairbourne Lake Timsbury. From its humble origins as a chassis kit and frame, we painstakingly transported it to its idyllic site to begin the meticulous construction process. The end result is a breathtaking structure that seamlessly blends with its natural surroundings, providing a tranquil retreat for those seeking a peaceful escape in the heart of nature.
One of the most outstanding features of this stunning abode is the use of locally and sustainably sourced sweet chestnut for the cladding and decking. This decision not only adds a touch of rustic charm to the hut but also reflects our commitment to supporting the local ecosystem and minimizing our environmental impact. But how did we ensure its sustainability you ask? Well, we employed to sectioning and fell the tree a mere four miles from the hut's location. we took meticulous care when tackling this tree to preserve the timber our skill and equipment allowed us to carefully extract the sweet chestnut, ensuring that its natural beauty and structural integrity were preserved throughout the process.
It's noteworthy to mention that a third-party survey had deemed the tree hazardous to users of the A27, making its careful removal necessary. To safeguard the delicate sweet chestnut from dramatic splitting, we removed sections from the tree with our m.e.w.p until it was safe to carefully fell stem in direction to best preserve the timber and keep stress to a minimum. careful extraction, transportation, and milling of the stems produced a good yield  form a single tree and some fabulous timber. As a testament to our meticulous approach, we managed to yield 6" feather edge boards for the cladding, 5"x1 1/4" decking boards, along with posts, rails, and staircase material – all from the single tree. Furthermore, the decking framing timbers were milled from pine located just a stone's throw away.
Every aspect of the construction process, including other essential works, was adeptly managed in-house, with the only exceptions being the sections of the electrical connection that required validation and approval from the installer. This hands-on approach allowed us to maintain strict quality control and ensure that every detail of the build met our exacting standards.
With our unwavering attention to sustainability, craftsmanship, and local resourcing, this project stands as a resounding testament to EGD's dedication to creating environmentally conscious and visually captivating structures that harmonize with their surroundings. We are proud to have brought this vision to life, and we hope that it will serve as a beacon of inspiration for future projects aiming to embrace sustainability without compromising on elegance and functionality.
