A27 remedial work under highways instruction

EGD-SERVICES LTD were called upon by our valued estate client to carry out remedial work on three trees, brought to our client’s attention by the local highways authority's.

The work consisted of one dead Scots pine, in heavy decline leaning towards the A27, 7m from road edge. A large oak bough located over the A27, with hazard beam that had opened after a limb on the extremities had been struck by a tall vehicle.  And an Ash, in heavy decline near the A27.  All three trees required their own traffic management site to complete. Once we had arranged the appropriate 2way traffic management with our chosen supplier, in quick time due to risk involved, we attended with our unique equipment on the 27/04/2022.

The first site was set up allowing the Scots pine to be dismantled with the use of our purpose built Unimog U500, with its 19m  M.E.W.P and front mount 10” chipper, into sectioned 2m lengths, then loaded on to timber trailer using our compact tracked loader,

while starting the large oak bough that hung over both sides of carriage way in the same site from the opposing side of the road using Unimog’s M.E.W.P and its ability to work in full capacity with in the confides of a single lane.

We then removed equipment from site we instructed the TMO to move site to the opposite lane to tackle the remainder of the oak bough. Hazard beam circled in red. Once dismantled and in the carriageway the timber was shuttled to our 11t timber trailer in a layby at end of site with our compact tracked loader.  We once again pulled all equipment off site so our t/m supplier could move site for the third and final site for the day. The final t/m site covered the declining ash tree again dismantled and chipped with use of the Unimog and tracked loader to shuttle timber up verge to timber trailer in near by layby.  All works carried out between the hours of 9:30 -3:30 due to road traffic sensitivity and between the 2.5-3hours of waiting for t/m setup and relocations. Thanks to the EGD-Services Ltd proficiency and equipment all tree works in question were carried out in the space of just over 3 hours  on site  time  and all left  clean, safe and  tidy.
